| 关于此艺术家 |
Chris Coles is one of the first artists to explore the world of the Bangkok Night. His paintings, in the Expressionist style, are jagged emotional portraits, revealing a raw and primitive layer of the human experience. The paintings are a continuation of the Expressionist movement which has its roots in the Germany of the early 1900's. Emil Nolde, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Alexei von Jawlensky, Oskar Kokoschka are a few of his favorite artists. Although Chris is neither abnormally short nor French nor particularly degenerate, he has often been called the Toulouse-Lautrec of Bangkok. Most of Chris' paintings are clustered in various series titled: BANGKOK NIGHTLIFE, PATPONG PORTRAITS, BANGKOK NEON, BANGKOK NOIR, BANGKOK LADYBOY, BANGKOK SOI DOG. There are also a series of music videos featuring Chris' paintings accompanied by the wild and wonderful Bangkok hip-hop group called Thaitanium. |

Midnite Patpong
2004 watercolor and India ink 46 x 61 |
|
By midnite on Friday, Patpong is full of tourists from Europe, the U.S., Australia, India, the Middle East and Japan, ten thousand girls, hundreds of ladyboys, plenty of beer, whiskey, endless stalls selling counterfeit goods, thirty or forty different disco tracks blasting out of gogo bars, a world vortex of man woman interaction, a combination sexual theme park, shopping mall and inferno, fiercely consuming an endless stream of humanity and their desire. |
Party Time Voodoo Bar
2004 watercolor and India ink 46 x 61 |
|
Voodoo Bar is a mix of ladyboys and one hundred percent ladies, it is difficult to tell. Some say Thai ladyboys are sometimes so perfectly feminine, only their hands can give them away. With too many beers, mulit-colored lights, pounding music and so many bodies moving, the only way to avoid a mistake for sure is to not go there at all. On the other hand, for whatever reason, ignorance or desire, some guys do. |
Closing Time Nana Plaza

|
The end of another night at Nana Plaza, the Expats all regulars and the leftover girls drifting through a haze of indifference. |
Young Blond Expat
2005 watercolor and India ink 61 x 46 |
|
The young blond Expat is a prize Bangkok possession. He has so many female options, he ends up confused and lost, a combination sex object and ATM, where do the girlfriends start and end, forever struggling to find his focus. |
