The paintings of houses represent a utopian, often tenuous, desire that has become the 21st century American Dream. New homes are often built quickly and attempt to provide a Disney-like reality creating the illusion that it will remove the dweller from society’s problems. Today’s American economic well being is dependant upon excessive spending and a new home is an extremity of this. Dependence and promotion of consumerism leads to an abundance of waste and the further desire to purchase new products. In many ways contemporary art making practices based on modern consumerist ideals can have an adverse affect on the way artists create and conceptualize their work. |
