Karin Hannak

About the Artist

In 1990 Karin Hannak discovers the special meaning of human hair as artistic material – hair confronting the transitoriness of our lives with consistence, strength and eternity. – The first so-called capillographics show "Faces of Life". After creating the "Human Mirror" installation "CapilloCollection International", human suffering as well as concern for the future of our world become central topics for which the artist always finds new possibilities of expression. She works projects in white, poster walls, light installations, photo and sculpture projects like e.g. 2004 the project "Watch the Cobble Stones" in view of “Violence against Women”. 2005: Her computer animation "Every 5 Seconds" points at the world-wide mass mortality of children. The vision "CapilloGlobe" describes the basic situation of our world, the immense endangerment of our vulnerable planet as well as our hope for the imperishable. During the Austrian presidency of the European Union 2006, Karin Hannak realized the project "European Landscape" - a hint to the high responsibility for the future of our children lying in our decisions. 2007: Macro-photographs of upper arms of people of all races peacefully unite people in the sense of being consummately human through "skin and hair". 2008 the artist started to encompass the world with „Embracing Time and Space“ (ETAS), a symbol for love and peace - represented by a banner in transparent foil with a quote by Thérèse de Lisieux.

Quo vadis?

2001
Light installation in a white sculpture

Where does the way of the individual, the group, the global conditions of the present go? The artistic expression of this concern uses empty area, light and reflection. The projection into the infinite shows the helplessness in relation to the bright and apparently visible sizes!

A sort of reflects the future difficulties of communication in a transparent world, the individualisation, the peril of solitude, the individual’s desire for protection, the accentuation, that there is always something personal, something intimate, that must be protected

ETAS - Embracing Time and Space

2008

This world-embracing art project shall express that love is the most important pre-condition for a harmonious coexistence. Transparent foils with a quote by Thérèse de Lisieux being continuously repeated, written in silver lettering and different languages will be presented on all continents and this way symbolically unite the world. First installations of "ETAS" have been on "OLYMPIC FINE ARTS 2008" in Beijing, China and at the "Caribbean Festival of Arts 2008" in Georgetown, Guyana (photo).

ETAS - Embracing Time and Space

2009

Further installations of "ETAS" have taken place in front of the Mariendom at Linz/Austria, the European Capital of Culture 2009, at "Art, Life & Visions - 100 Excellent Artists Exhibition" at Penang Town Hall, Malaysia and and at Drill Hall in Johannesburg, South Africa.
