Born 1st May, 1977, Nottinghamshire, UK
"I grew up in Sherwood Forest. My family moved into Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre in 1979. I spent most of my time outdoors making dolls out of flowers, collecting acorns and twigs and watching beetles journey across dead tree trunks. Over the years I have absorbed a lot of knowledge about the forest and love it dearly. I think this experience owes greatly to my love of the natural world."

Snugglepelt
2006 25 x 41 cm |
|
"This is a continuation of a previous brief which I wanted to explore how materials with fractal properties can play with the eye and have a meaning to the viewer. I'm really happy with the sensation of warm light and comforting softness in this piece. The title Snugglepelt is a made up name in the context that children's toys are named by their owners. This represents an object of the imagination. An object of security and protection and of magical fairytale properties." |
Veil
2006 25 x 41cm |
|
"This piece started life as a photograph taken of a favourite ancient oak tree in Sherwood Forest. It's positioned in such a way that it reminds me of a church alter piece at the head of a yew tree cluster which forms the pews. I wanted to create a sensation of light through stained glass. As the Oak tree was transformed it seems more like a brightly coloured soft veil rather thn the skeleton of an sturdy 500+ year old Oak tree." |
Under My Skin
2006 25 x 41 cm |
|
"Working with fractal themes (order in chaos, recursion, self similarity, scaling and a sense of infinity)with gouache on canvas then photographed and digitised shows my Facination by the other wordlyness of life under a microscope." |
Iterated Siblings
2005 30 x 30cm |
|
Digital Chimera origionally as Water Colour paint, Biro, Pencil. Based on the simple building block like rules which are able to convert complex visual detail into digtal information. The four symbols simply say how much an area is full or empty with positve or negtive. |
Release
2006 Mixed Media/ Digital 25 x 41cm |
|
"I built up layers by working automatically on paper with pencil crayon. I then started to bring out shapes that I saw through the chaotic marks with biro.Once digtally scanned I worked on the Shapes and colours. The process was completed by transferring the image using lasertran onto a gesso coated Plywood. This was influenced by the work of Max Ernst and his relationship with random techniques such as automatic painting as a means to produce work that directly relates to natural chaos and the subconscious mind." |
Love Above Everything
2007 Etching 15cm x 11cm |
|
Etching commissioned for precious wedding invitations.
I wanted to combine as many meaningful symbols and yet not make it an imposing image. |
