Residing and working in Emmen, the Netherlands
Betty Jonker picked up her brush and palette at a young age. She went on to earn her art qualification, after which she began her artistic career as a drawing instructor, and was the co-owner of an advertising consultancy in Emmen for twenty-five years, where she created designs for national and international organisations. She won awards for a number of her designs. In 2001, she decided to bid farewell to the world of advertising, and once again had more time to focus on painting.
As a designer and visual artist, Betty works with shapes, colours and compositions every day.
Initially, she worked in oils exclusively, but by shifting to acrylics she developed an entirely new style.
Betty enjoys experimenting with colour and composition, magnifying and stylizing to produce dynamic, exciting and colourful abstractions that do not necessarily represent a specific topic, but rather emphasise the entire experience of shape and colour.
Her work is characterised by a certain stratification, the use of complementary colours and the ‘threads’.
Her interpretation, combined with a deft brushstroke, creates vibrant impressions of abstract flowers and animals with a playful nod to human relationships.
Betty Jonker exhibits at home and abroad. Her work is offered for sale by various organisations and private dealers in the Netherlands and overseas.
