The world is in a state of flux today. An economic depression is inevitable and people's morales have already dropped.
I think we need to remember at such times, that "value" may be applied to other aspects of living besides economics.
I am reminded of an old friend who had lost most of her possessions after her stroke. She was put into a home by her family. Over the years, her health worsened, but it was her strong will to live that kept her alive decades longer than the doctors said she would live.
I learned something vital about this person - she valued her life, even after this tragedy.
We do not realize that things can sometimes get even worse when times are bad. They can. That is why it is important to remember every day, from the moment we open our eyes in the morning, that the most valuable thing and our ultimate concern is our belief in what we have to contribute to the world.
In tough times, draw closer to those near to you and distant. Remember, as my father told me -" sacrifice builds character...", but more than that, empty pocketbooks and empty pants pockets are not the only things surrounding us these days. We have an opportunity to give back some beauty to the world, now, more than ever.
