Was born in 1979 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and then after 12 years moved to Raleigh,NC. I will graduating from UNC- Chapel Hill in May with my MFA in Studio. |

My work deals with obsession, obsession of drawing, mark-making, mechanical devices, food and the body. Obsession is perfection. Often painters, sculptors, printmakers and other artist start off with drawings. Artists use drawings to give them an idea of how to start a project; they are generally a part of the process. Drawing is my entire process. I am obsessed with perfecting the beginning sketch that often, other artists discard. If I could crack away my skull, I envision my mind looking like a gruesome carnival experience, a virtual three-ring circus. As I work on my drawings I try to capture the detailed and disturbing nature of the psyche. I am interested in the paranoia of one�s own body image and I connect this systematic paranoia to mechanical devices. My drawings concentrate on the way these two elements work together and the tension they create. |
