The inspirations for the paintings of Dagmar Winkler are taken from the artist’s personal experiences, impressions, encounters, and thoughts. Landscapes in Italy, Spain, France, and North America, for example, give her ideas about atmosphere, light, smell, colors, as well as the beauty and over sensitiveness and fallibility of Nature. Dagmar Winkler paints and captures these special impressions on canvas. At times, she avoids details while at other times she exaggerates them—it is an individual perspective. She wants to work out the complexities of the beauty of Nature and achieve respect for it.
For many years, Dagmar Winkler has worked on the subject “water”, water being one of the most important elements for the human being. She is captivated by it and sees in it a subject with never ending possibilities for interpretation with its very different perspectives and moods. The multi-faceted nature of water is a challenging and fascinating subject for the painter; she discovers everywhere different aspects of water which she transfers on her canvases. So in nearly all paintings, this flowing element can be found somewhere; sometimes you find it calm and peaceful or violent, dangerous, or bubbling up while at other times, it is light and inviting or dark and mysterious. |
