The intent of my work over the last few years has been to engage viewers with complex color-field paintings, using a grid system as the groundwork. Block by block thousands of individually painted squares saturate rough linen leaving behind an intense space that references both the geometric and the organic; the pixel and the cell. The coolness of the process is countered by the individualism of each swatch of color, leaving behind the textured linen, and creating a soft and rich surface. Furthermore the paintings begin to act like a diary, as painted blocks are counted and recorded, tracking the progress of the painting and the artist activity. |
