Sebastian Buescher

About the Artist

I am a non-traditionalist.
My inspiration comes from trying to uncover life's questions and trying to make sense of it all. Memories have become an increasingly important aspect, incorporating into my work second hand materials, along with second hand ideas.

My work exists in the form of jewellery and objects. These forms give me the most pleasure and the most successful results, reminiscent of small found things, collected, given or bought somewhere along the journey of life.

2005
Bone, silver, urchin spines, glass, grandmother's ashes, diamond
11cm by 6cm

A brooch created in memory of my grandmother, using her ashes as sand in an hourglass, held on a bed of reconstituted bone and urchin spines. This piece also makes a contemporary reference to funerary jewellery.

Pregnant Tree Boy

2006
Wood, glass, porcelain, pearl, alcohol, black widow spiders

A 'natural history museum' inspired idea mixed with my need for nonsense and absurdity, resulting in a pregnant tree boy brooch.
