Andreja Kuluncic works are presented at some of the most established manifestations of contemporary art (Manifesta 4, 2002, documenta 11, 2002, 8 Istanbul Biennial, 2003, Liverpool Biennial, 2004, etc.). Her artistic practice is characterized by a shift from expressing unbound creativity to the creation of new models of sociability and communication situations, an interest for socially engaged themes, confrontation with different audiences, and collaboration on collective projects. | The project is based on an interactive game played on the Internet. Choosing among different genetically determined traits, the players (participants in the project) create virtual embryos – their own virtual progeny. The created embryos are exhibited in an “embryo galleryâ€. In the second phase of the project the society of virtual people created by Internet users is compared with the inhabitants of a “real†society. |

| At the focus of the project are latent prejudices and the creeping discrimination against foreign workers in Austria. With top-quality, well-designed job advertisements, 'inferior' jobs for Austrians are extolled, including all the restrictions and disadvantages with which otherwise mostly migrants see themselves confronted.

| Kuluncic (born in 1968) studied sculpture, graduating in 1992 from the Faculty of Applied Arts and Design in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. From 1992 to 1994 studied at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest. Since 1994 she has exhibited her works in numerous solo and group exhibitions (festivals) in Europe and all over the world, such as "World factory" San Francisco Art Institute (Walter and McBean Galleries, SAD, 2007.), “Day labor†exhibition in P.S.1 (New York, 2005), Liverpool Biennial (UK, 2004), the 8th International Istanbul Biennial (Turkey, 2003), „The American Effect“ (Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, 2003), Documenta 11 (Kassel, Germany, 2002), Manifesta 4 (Frankfurt/Main, 2002). She has been awarded several times (2001), Award on 10th Triennale-India. New Delhi, India; 2000, GrandPrix in new media category. 5th International Festival of New Film. Split, Croatia; 2000, Second award on the croatian net.art competition [mi2]. Zagreb, Croatia). The grands and workshops include Artist in Residency, Art in General, New York, USA (2005), Artist in Residency, Walker Art Center Minneapolis, US & ArtsLink/CEC Int. Partners (2003), Artist in Residency, Artspace. Sydney, Australia (2002), Workshop of the 10th Triennale-India. Jaipur, India (2001). She is co-founder of non governmental organization Multidisciplinary Authors Projects and Actions (MAPA) for art, science and technology which have been founded in June 2001 in Zagreb, Croatia. Currently lives in Zagreb. | |
