Since 1999, when I entered the painting program at the University at Albany, I have been steadily comprising a fair body of work of over 100 works in oil. My aim is to convey the immediacy and energy of certain experiences and impressions. My intention is to challenge myself and my practice and not to stagnate within certain methods of representation or to have a static message at all, rather to let the work be what it is, and not to impose on the audience any more than what is in the energy and the images portrayed. I was not concerned with showing my work until recently, when an invitation from the IVAM gallery in Valencia made me start to consider the paintings as a cohesive statement about the last seven years' explorations. Realizing I had in fact achieved much of what I set out to do, I now feel more confident about showing the results, and indeed feel it necessary to do this in order to move on with my work. |
