| 关于此艺术家 |
Textile art (Textilkunst) is a very old form of art. Nowadays mostly imagined as hobby for housewives it earns not much attention. One look on the rich cultural heritage of textile art done by our ancestors may change that opinion. Sewing, knitting, embroidery - the material itself is like a third dimension which gives textile artworks a special character. My intention is to express my idea of art with this ageold technique. |

Textile Installation "Peace Column"
2009 textile applications 255x700 cm |
|
Textile artist Jan Bejšovec presents his public installation on the prominent fountain column at Mehringplatz. The 166 years old “Peace Column” by Christian Gottlieb Cantain transformes by the textile cover to a “Picture Column”, explaining the eventful history of the Mehrinpplatz by the use of appliqués. Being the last witness of the original surrounding buildings, the columns opens a time-frame from the 64. Anniversary of the destruction of the place by allied bombs on 03.02.2009 till april 2009. Founded as RONDELL the place was later called BELLE-ALLIANCE-PLATZ after the anglo-prussian victory at Waterloo. Renamend in MEHRINGPLATZ in 1947 the place now shows nearly 300 years of Berlin history. Four population groups shaped this qarter most apparently: soldiers, citizen, workers and immigrants. The textile installation shows their traces widely visibly. |
