About the Artist

I work in a variety of mediums, but have found myself repeatedly drawn to a mixture of acrylic, ink, marker, and oil pastel. My current work is mostly done on small unstretched strips of canvas.

Danger: Faceless Politicians in Use

2007
Acrylic, oil pastel and marker on unstretched canvas
28 cm x 36 cm

In a country that strives to be for the people, by the people, our politicians rarely seem to have much connection to the people. I'm responding to the increasing disconnect between politicians and the people who vote them into office. This art work is meant to illustrate how politicians have become untouchable, figuratively and literally.

Global Warming

2007
acrylic and marker on unstretched canvas

Part of a series, this image focuses on the idea that we are not the first dominant species on the planet to be threatened by global climate change.

Who Is The Puppeteer?

2007
acrylic, marker, pen and paper on canvas

Delusions of Granduer

2007
Acrylic, Canvas, Illustration Board, Ink, Marker, and Pen on board

Feeling Ill?

2007
Acrylic, marker, oil pastel, and paper on canvas

In this piece, I was interested in addressing the adverse effects insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and litigation were having on the practice of medicine in the United States.

Conform

2007
Acrylic, Marker, Pen, and Glow-in-the-dark paint on canvas

One Planet, Two Planet, Red Planet, Blue Planet

2007
Acrylic, Marker, Ink, and Newspapaer on stretched canvas

Inspired by the odd convergence of several events, including reading Dr. Suess's "One Fish, Two Fish", listening to a discussion about Global Warming, and reading about Mars' environment, I created this piece as a response to my fears about what kind of world I'm leaving my children.

Sometimes I Feel Insignificant

2006
30cm x 38cm

"Sometimes I Feel Insignificant" addresses the disconnect between voters and elected officials. Every election seems to make the feeling worse.

Hate Machine

2007
63.5cm x 51cm

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." This statement was attributed to Herman Goring while at the Nuremberg trials. I came across it in, of all places, George Carlin's "When Will Jesus Bring The Pork Chops". When reading it I couldn't believe how little seems to have changed. Government still serves to divide people. It still functions as a Hate Machine, despite the efforts of many good people.

Transcend

2008
Acrylic, Marker, and Oil Pastel on brown paper

Transcend is about rising above the urge to follow along, and thinking and acting autonomously.

In My Mind's Eye

2006

This piece took approximately 1 and a half years to complete, and is intended to be a view into my mind. Each element serves as a symbol for the function of the brain. The spiders create the neural connections through their webbing, the eyeless man keeps everything functioning by clearing out what isn\'t needed. The doors are to specific memories, while the walls are made up of eyes also holding memories. In each eye I have drawn a specific memory, which can be seen in the detail posted with my other work here.

Here, Voter, Voter!
