| About the Artist |
My illustration work is realized in a series of drawn characters. Each one with their own quirks and attitudes. Each one illustrating different aspects of my own character and observations of others. They seek to be universal - capturing aspects of the everyman or woman. They depict human nature abstracted from the specific of “that’s you and that’s me’, and re-presented with a generic relevance to us all.
Drawing always from my head the possibilities are endless and, with each new day, the peramaters always changing.
I draw exactly what I want and I love it. Not what anyone wants me to draw, not what looks right by any one else’s standards other than my own - illustration is fabulous because you make up your own rules.
The balance that must be struck is that of integrity, to really mean, from your heart, what you draw. Not word for word what your character is saying, but with each stroke of the pen to do so with confidence. If you are asking people to look at your work in an exhibition the least you can be is definite.
What I love about illustration is that although a character starts by being the vehicle for ones thoughts, they quickly assume an independence, and actually ‘become’.
When they begin to flow it is a race to keep up. The images fly onto the page. They are a pleasure to articulate as they allow me to ‘get it all out’ within the safety of the drawn page. Does that make me a passive aggressive? I hope not.

Graffito - a piece of writing or drawing scribbled, scratched or sprayed on a surface.

road kill rabbit
2007 ink on paper 23cm - 50cm |

My partner, Adam Morrigan, has made international fame with his series of Road Kill sculptures. Hey give me part of the action! Cute bunny smashed by the side of road - not quite so cute. |
bird boy

bird boy - a likable character: young, aspirational and gutsy. Beguile and behave bird-boy! |
hanging out with vegans

Stereotypes are great to poke fun at. They mark a mere mid-point with so many variations falling either side. I've been a vegan - I know. |

First in Art History from DeMontford University, Leicester.
Worked in galleries, been setting up exhibitions for myself and other people for years. Lots of community arts - you reap what you sow. Glastonbury festival, carnival puppets, workshops galore.
Worked as a stained glass artist for years. Loved it. Restoration pieces in Gloucester Cathedral and Woodchester Mansion to name but a few.
Drawing for my supper now. Illustration mainly. Illustration is fabulous because you make up your own rules. Exhibited locally - lots. Need to get noticed further afield. Am on a mission as a self confessed drawaholic. |
