关于此艺术家

The other side of humor is something sad, and that is where my work is situated - in the notion that everything has the other side. In my culture this philosophy of dualism and co-existence of opposing forces is fundamental.

I am an artist from India, currently living in New York. My artwork takes form through three dimensional objects and installations. It is an intermingling of past and present experiences. The work begins intuitively and emotionally but gets encoded during the process. Process and time are important aspects of the work and define the work to a large extent. The tension created by unpredictability and transformation is exciting for me.

Aesthetics, beauty and sensuality are stratagems I use to lure the viewer to the work, though they are also essential to its nature. It is important for me that my work begin with an initial visual experience, a physical embodied experience that makes you want to then experience the work at a deeper level.
Though my work is informed by my experiences and my references it is open enough for the viewers to make their own projections on to it.

Lately my work is more about 'vanitas'. It is a message that tells the viewer that the pleasure of life only lasts a moment: because time is limited, live fully the present moment.

教育程度与个人自传
Till the age of 18 Nidhi studied drawing with the renowned painter Ganesh Haloi in Calcutta, after which she moved to Boston to study at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Returning to India in 1991, she exhibited in various galleries over the next few years, including two solo shows at the Birla Academy of Fine Arts in Calcutta and a group show at AIFACS in New Delhi. In 1999 she completed an apprenticeship in pottery with Michel Hutin in Auroville, and in 2001 she trained under the pioneering ceramic artist Ray Meeker in Pondicherry and Kodaikanal. She returned to the U.S. in 2004 to join the MFA program at Hunter College in New York. As a graduating student she received the Zankel Gift Award for her work in the MFA program. Most recently her work was selected for the 55th Premio Faenza - International Ceramic Art Competition in Faenza, Italy.
