| 关于此艺术家 |
Lauren Hayes Bissell is an accomplished naturalist who works in a range of artistic styles. She spends as much time observing the bird/animal as planning and painting the picture, which is generally finished in her imagination before it goes on the canvas, even though additional ideas develop as the artwork is emerging.
Lauren favours two techniques: Old Master style glazing and "slap it on" but will incorporate anything that works: “I'm not stuck with just one way of doing things... I use whichever technique is necessary to achieve the desired result; consequently, I have had to research a multitude of methods, which have contributed to the diversity found in my artworks.”
Lauren Hayes Bissell has worked as an illustrator for The Urban Wildlife Group magazine, completed book illustrations (incl book covers) for Century House Publishing and The Oliver Press, glass worker (blowing, sculpting and staining), and as an art teacher/demonstrator for an Afro-Carribean Community Centre. (Duties included teaching at local and special needs schools in the inner cities and promoting exhibition displays geared towards better cultural understanding).
Currently, Lauren is most involved with the Worldwide Nature Artists Group, the Hilliard Society of Miniaturists, Marwell International Wildlife Art Society and The Wildlife Art Society International. She has also just added a new and exciting range of fantasy/surrealist works to her portfolio. |

Sea Song
2006 61 x 91 |
|
Linking the story of the ill-fated SS Medina (torpedoed by a German U-boat during WW1) and the discovery of a leather bound copy of Coleridge's "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" which was recovered from the wreck in the 1970's, "Sea Song" is a journey through the vast oceans central to both legends. Hidden around the story teller are some of the rime's central characters, including the bride and groom with their wedding guests, the ship, icebergs, albatross and sea snake. And of course, the mariner himself. It also pays tribute in the form of six poppies to the lost sailors of the SS. Medina, yet here Lauren manages to convey her thoughts on the stupidity of war; the submerged poppies are used as a reef by clown fish. |
Just Give Me Half A Chance
2006 acrylic on canvas 46 x 61 |
|
Tigers are considered to be amongst the worlds rarest big cats and white tigers are even rarer. They need to be given just half a chance to recover their numbers in the wild, but the eyes of this splendid white cat hints that just give him half a chance and you might regret it... he has other things on his mind... |
