Born in 1941 in Sydney Australia, I have always been fascinated by the simple beauty of natural form and function. In more recent years, that interest has been re-directed by available technology into areas of expression that once I would have thought impossible. There is an entire world of composite art just waiting to be explored.

Even though I have always painted, I am primarily a film-maker and, by association, a photographer. While I have gained a great deal of satisfaction from the creative aspects of "pure" photography, the advent of digital photography and computer graphics has opened a completely new area of art to me; and of course, to countless others. The natural world provides me with an abundance of stimuli to create images of what could be, and extensions of what is. |

Rhapsody in Blue
2006 Digital image on gallery-wrapped canvas 91 x 59 cm |
|
A simple celebration of Spring reflected in the broad spectrum of blue tones of a single iris. This composite image uses a plain background to focus attention on the flower's centre. |
Dog with a View
2005 Digital image on gallery-wrapped canvas 101 x 56 cm |
|
We've all had that feeling of being watched. This curious dog in a village in southern Mexico had the perfect vantage point to peruse the passers-by, his sombre colouring offset by the pink and blue walls so characteristic of the local architecture. |
The Board Meeting
2006 Digital image on gallery-wrapped canvas 152 x 89 cms |
|
The combination of three separate pelican frames and a typically colourful Floridian sunset add weight to the fabled wisdom and calm disposition of pelicans in general. |
Sanctuary
2005-06 Digital image on gallery-wrapped canvas 182 x 68 cms |
|
This composite image combines man-made and natural elements to represent one possible world to replace what has been destroyed. One that offers the security, serenity and space needed by all living things to survive. The work is again inspired by the imminent extinction now being faced by wild tigers. It apportions no blame, but simply asks "what are we going to do about it?". |
Storm Surge III
2005 Digital image on gallery-wrapped canvas 152 x 56 cms |
|
There are few images as evocative and ephemeral as a seascape. Frozen in time, this storm-whipped wave is within seconds of once again becoming an integral part of the homogeneous ocean. |
Drowsy Tiger
2005-06 Digital image on gallery-wrapped canvas 152 x 107 cms |
|
I have worked with tigers over the past 10 years, and can attest from experience that no other animal can so successfully project a false air of bored indifference. However, in a moment that can change to a display of muscle, teeth and claws, all ready for action. There are now only some 200 of this remarkably handsome white-phase Bengal tiger in existence. |
White on White II
2006 Digital image on gallery-wrapped canvas 100 x 67 cms |
|
One of my "white on white" series, the subtlety of shading and texture in this magnolia flower easily bears the repetition given in this composite work. It is not difficult to imagine the wonderful perfume that accompanies the bloom on this cool spring morning. |
COMPETITIVE EDGE
2005 Digital image on gallery-wrapped canvas 182 x 104 cm |
|
Two separate frames of Bengal tigers and the essential elements of a tropical forest are combined here to create a powerful image of territorial confrontation. The slanting light and moody, reflective pool do little to soften the open hostility of this encounter.
This image also serves as a reminder that, with fewer than 3,000 wild tigers remaining on our planet, it is possible that they could become extinct in the next 15 years. |

| 教育程度与个人自传 |
I am a zoologist by both profession and inclination, so much of my work is biased that way. After completing arts and science degrees, I taught at several universities before becoming a full-time film-maker some 30 years ago. Little can compare with the creative freedom of being an independent producer and artist. Of course, the pay tends to be .... uncertain, but there are other compensations!
Basically, whatever artistic expression and technique I posses has come from within. As most of my time is occupied by film work, my exhibitions have been few and far between. However, the few that I had in Sydney, Brisbane and environs were reasonably successful.
Now in New York, I look forward to devoting more time to that side of who I am. |
