I was born in a small town in the former Yugoslavia. Because we were poor and did not have a TV in our house until I was 10 years old, I had to rely on my imagination a lot. Each year, any books and comic books I read and collected through the year would be burned in the winter time. We used a coal stove to heat our home in winter and paper was always needed to start up the fire. My drawings and paintings met the same fate. As a child, I would stare at the dust particles dancing in the beams of light that streamed through the holes of the window blinds of our small house. I remember the curiosity and wonder I felt at those times which developed into an insatiable hunger for knowledge. |
