Pier Giorgio De Pinto

About the Artist

His work develops through conceptual purposes transferred to images and is based on an ethics of contemporary perception that has its basis in the positivistic idea of the medium and the material culture. The artist’s body, through mythical and historical figures, becomes the logos of transfigurations as well as of mass and personal visions, of linguistic experiments too. The staging of images alternates Classicism with Baroque, in an excess of cultural references, sign information, visual fragments and wrecks of meaning.

CIT_Continuity Identity Theory

1999
Performance and VCD, 8 min.

The theory of the continuous identity is related to the idea that ‘I am’ it is the same person of various future and past. The present ‘I am’ it is only a temporary condition continually transforming itself in past identity and in future identity. De Pinto put on the performance “CIT, Continuity Identity Theory”, with a sound contribution by the electronic music group Plastic Violence. A video of it was made, with Elena Foresto’s filming and Elisa Gianni’s photography and was published by Death Paradise Productions. http://www.deathparadise.it

RE_pression

2003
Performance and DVD. 75 min.

A collaboration with the electronic music group Plastic Violence. ‘The most informal work of the Plastic Violence . In it is contained a constant element of the daily life of everyone of us: the re_pression. The “power” denies us the present, the party, the happiness, be able to decide for our life, while “they” wants it for the production and its mainteinance.’ From http://www.deathparadise.it/dpa/catalogo.html PlasticViolence_Brightness (CD-R ltd. ed. 100 copies - dpa 03/R - feb. 2003)

Everlasting Dance

2006
Looping DVD_5, 49 min.

Amnios… The birth, the liquid genesis of the body, the tragic and sublime origin of life, the beginning of its become shape, mechanic, movement, to be. In the eternal ecstasy of the myth, the body that is born and revives still, male and female, sacred and sacrilegious, union of contrary is that of Dionysus, god of the productive force of the earth, ambiguous and rule-breaking god, nomad, fool, dancing. Its drunk dance is its awaken, its peaceful metamorphosis, its rhythmic and fluctuating conquest of the verticality. On the stage, the meeting of the visual artist Pier Giorgio De Pinto and the dancer Alessandra Palma di Cesnola in the reflective and double whirl of colours and light. The dance “unexpected” escapes the diagrams and the shapes; it is alive mobility, beating, intense. The images coil every thing, pursue the space, and take the breath away. Fiorella Nicosia [art critic] on the occasion of the performance AMNIOS. Florence, Italy 2005.

COSMOSINSOMNIA

2006
DVD_5, 28 min.

A media carpet place of meeting of video, contemporary dance and of experimental music. Sounds, images and the unexpected colour define a metamorphosis of a sleepless body. An endless place that sends back to the origins of a universal night that swallows the body in its enigmatic becoming. Present in VISIONARIA 2006 http://www.visionariamedia.org/eng/index.php http://www.visionariamedia.org/eng/film.php?idfilm=1758&titolo=Cosmosinsomnia

Kirye Eleison

2002
digital print on canvas
150x200

Kyrie Eleison and following works developing according to a revisiting, from a contemporary viewpoint, of both the myth and the sacred, both the Dionysiac and the Apollonian as a comparison between East and West, the secret rite of ancient ceremonies vs. the images of media war. They are evocatory images synthesizing a process and a study, attaining to sacred as well as to heathen mithology, to sacred images as well as to consumer society.
