| At the top of the painting MAAT with her wings protects the word PEACE. Behind the goddess you see her name MAAT – DAUGHTER OF RE. MAAT the goddess of truth and justice, stood for order and harmony in the universe. On the ancient drawings we often see the Pharao sacrificing a picture of the goddess with her symbol, the ostrich-feather [struthio camelus]. In the court of justice of OSIRIS the heart of the deceased was counterbalanced against this feather after death.
In the middle part of the painting NECHBET in shape of a winged cobra protects the old-Egyptian indication SHENU, which stands for the eternity. NECHBET was the protection goddess of upper Egypt.
In the lower third of the painting HAREMHAB sacrifices two jars filled with wine accompanied by the sentence: „Humans may not be bad.“ HAREMHABS career began at the military offices under ECHNATON and TUTANCHAMUN and prevailed about thirty years.
The background of the picture represents the life cycle: the lotus flower winds upwards from the lower left the indication of water (the waves) to the life-donating sun, which spreads its rays over the painting. |

| The path of the fair ones:
At the top of the painting we see the festively dressed NEFERTARI – wife of the Ramses II – at a sacrificial ritual offering God/goddesses wine bowls. The table is richly covered with small, round cakes, bread, vegetables and fruits. NEFERTARI is wearing the vulture hood with two high, straight feathers.
On the top right the name cartouche of the queen: NEFERTARI , which means „the most beautiful one“ – Meretenmut „loving of MUT“.
At the left we see the ostrich-feather – the symbol of the goddess MAAT, goddess of truth and justice. In the court of justice of OSIRIS the heart of the deceased was counterbalanced against this feather after death.
In the lower part of this painting ANUBIS (holding a scourge) is watching in shape of a jackal, who is lord and master of the embalmment hall and guardian of the necropolis. It is incumbent on ANUBIS to lead the deceased queen to the gates of the realm of OSIRIS.
The background of this painting is a part of an art nouveau-ornament found at the first villa of Otto Wagner. |
