After the Rain
2005 600 x 300 x 200 |
|
After the Rain uses the air freshener of the same name as its starting point. For me this smell a hot road rained upon on a hot summers day, the installation recreates this smell.
The installation consists of around 7 tonnes or asphalt (sometimes called tarmac). All of this was reclaimed road surface to ensure that the smell was a genuine hot road smell. |
Honey and Almonds
2005 300 x 200 x 300 |
|
Honey and Almonds reflects upon a romantic sensibility that the chocolate bar exploits in its shape, and logo. It combines it with images from maps, geographic formations and William Hodges painting Tahiti Revisited. |

15, 450 milligrams of the Evia
2006 6 x 6 x 15 |
|
15, 450 milligrams of the Evian mountain is a work that explores our attachment to a world outside of the city. We have a deep-seated need for a connection with wilderness, raw nature, something real and universal: the antithesis of urban life.
One product that we buy large quantities is mineral water, particularly brands that comes from mountains. 15, 450 milligrams of the Evian mountain is concerned with the romanticism of the mountain and the human connection to it.
A small part of the Mont Blanc Massif (the mountain range in the Evian logo) has been transported to the gallery by boiling away 50 litres of Evian mineral water. The water, having spent 15 years filtering through the rocks, dissolves small |
Dark Side of the Rainbow
2006 244 x 122 |
|
A cylindrical projection of the moon, with the far side in the centre is routed into plasterboard.
The Yellow Brick road from the Wizard of Oz is shown in gold leaf across the surface of the "dark side" of the moon. The Yellow Brick road has been mapped as accurately as possible from the film itself.
The Yellow Brick road runs from right to left, as Dorothy's journey begins when the house lands on the Wicked Witch of the East, and ends at the castle of the Wicked Witch of the West.
The relationship between Dark Side of the Moon and The Wizard of Oz has been the subject of a long standing urban myth / conspiracy. A search on google reveals the interest in this subject. |
