Ying Mui Tang

关于此艺术家

She uses un-advanced technology, unsophisticated skills and materials (wire and packaging tape, plastic wrapped wire, textile fur, etc) from the industry to build up works and explores the fragile condition of human’s existence, the external and internal boundaries built around people.

shelter from prehistoric time
In the second stage, the artist used wire and packaging tape to build shelters – an important issue in Hong Kong, hoping to reflect some imagined prehistoric accommodations. Housing has always been closely knitted with Hong Kong people. Some love it and some hate it. Some have become rich and some committed suicide.? Housing has become so dominant in one’s life that it has got a grip on one’s future. Hong Kong people always have these mystical feelings about their housing. The shelters series hope to reflect some kinds of accommodations from the pre-historic time, hopefully they will let people rethink the relationship of housing and themselves! In the project, the artist has tried to use un-advanced technology, unsophisticated skills and materials from the industry to create works. These fragile works shifted viewers’ attention to the high technology of building houses. The modern ways of building can bring us a more secure living space, but it also burdens us financially and trapped us into four-walls.

Dreamscape of prehistoric time
In the prehistoric time there were animals that were the guardians of the earth. They protected the earth by flying around the globe. One day, one of the animals took a small stroll on the ground but was captured by a pre-historic man. From then on, the guardian animals decreased in numbers and finally they disappeared from the face of the earth.

From searching of Sheung Ngor to searching for oneself through our daily pursuing. Are we really pursuing what we really hope for?
