Born in 1954, Jill DeGroff is a New York based artist who has made her studio the cafes and bars around the world. Departing from tradition, she steers clear of luminaries and instead aims her paint brush at the artists, bar keeps, jazz musicians, chefs, and other creative souls who make the world go round. |

I am a Saloon Artist; I draw anyone with a good story and an interesting face: bartenders, chefs, proprietors, barflies, jazz musicians etc . I believe the closer you stay to the street, the more you observe and experience the essence of life. For years I gave away my drawings to strangers because I felt they belonged to them. Once I drew a gypsy who observed me sketching and asked me to draw him. the sadness and hunger in this man’s eyes is something I will never forget, as long and deep as the ocean. It is impossible for me to draw someone without a piece of me getting lost in them. |

| Attended SUNY at Purchase, Art Student League, portraits appear in industry publications here and abroad including Theme Magazine (UK) Imbibe, Beverage Media, My Table (USA), and Mixologist (Berlin).
