As a photographer, I am challenged by the notion that photographic technology has progressed to a state in which an artist might be able to reclaim an imaginary space ( like in traditional painting ), but this representation, nowadays, can maintain a tension with a representation of the real world. Within the frozen frame of even one shot, my work evokes a sense of temporality which drives the narrative of my globally-informed cosmology ( which counts Emaki, theatre, manga, and spiritual iconography amongst its influences ). Another dichotomy evident in my process is a kind of counterpoint between the pre-planned world of idealism ( imagined within myself ) and an active effort to coax serendipity ( details that develop in the moment of creation, especially through collaborations with models ). |
