| This piece was conceptualized when I found a bag of toys, and pictured them split into two camps on a board, as if in battle. The silliness of these cartoon figures trying to be intimidating and serious paralleled war of the real world, where ridiculous reasons for aggression turn into national and multi-national conflicts. There is a series of photos and famous paintings collaged thru-out piece from the top down, representing various conflicts, whether armed or philosophical: works by Leonardo superimposed on one another, a sort of evolutionary sequence leading to Adam, who is in turn being created by god, Galileo being interrogated by the church, the Spanish Inquisition, the Crusades, all of it leading down to a river of blood: the whole thing is dripping with drama while the Buddha sits at the top, above the fray. The Yin-Yang symbol in tones instead of black and white represents the gray areas of life, which if people paid more attention to, there would be less violence.
