| The Salton Sea, located in Imperial and Riverside Counties, is California's largest and most polluted lake. It was formed at the turn of the century after improper management of irrigation routes from the
Colorado River caused it to flow unchecked into the Salton basin. Today the sea exhibits high levels of toxicity due to pesticides from agricultural runoff. The multitudes of birds and fish that once existed in the lake are no longer able to survive. |
