About the Artist

The work proposes a dissemination and reassessment of the constructed environments that we inhabit, in an effort to unravel their complexity

Untitled

2007
variable

Untitled
An arrangement of found objects in an attempt to ellicit visual poetry from their relationships and references

Two Time

2005
wall clocks
variable

Two Time
A simple modification / intervention that renders two everyday objects useless. The piece forces us to review our dependence on aspects of our existence that we often take for granted

Girlie Shed

2001
shed, stained glass, chair, light, paint
244 x 183 x 244

This pieces questions notions of privacy, as well as stereotypical representations of the female form. It also forces us to reassess our relationships to such everyday phenonenom as pornography

The Monchrome Set - 3

2005
gloss paint on aluminium
150 x 229 x 4

The Monchrome Set - 3
A tiny section of a random photo is enlarged to massive proportions. The painting is part of a triptych that questions how we see on a microscopic level

Domestic God

2006
table legs, aluminium
154 x 40 x 5

Domestic God
Found objects modified to suggest art historical referents

Open

2006/07
steel, perspex, lights
variable, each element = 183 x 244 x 82

Open
Based on signage and advertising hoardings, and attempting artistic reference

Proposed Monument to Futility

2007
plinths
variable

Proposed Monument to Futility
This piece suggests the temporal nature of all human endeavours

Proof

2008
wood, brass
322 x 61 x 31

The piece was suggested by scouring charity stores. By combining two unrelated items in a Brancussi like manner, new meaning is invented in a way that was never intended originaly for these items

Atlas

2003
magazine racks, paint, notebooks
600 x 200 x 15

Atlas
This piece forces us to reassess our relationship and dependence on such highly abstract visual languages, such as cartography / topography

I Pollute Therefore I Am

2002
rubbish bags, vinyl lettering
variable

During the course of the exhibition, the gallery is asked to retain and display the rubbish that would be normally discarded. This forces to confront the detritus generated by our throw away society

Narnia

2007
wardrobe, lights, paint
196 x 120 x 44

Narnia
The light draws us inquisitively towards this highly evocative object. Inside there is nothing remarkable. Social parallels abound

When Donald Met Tracey

2005/06
foam, textile, wood
90 x 305 x 30

When Donald Met Tracey
This piece can be floor or wall mounted, and the self explanatory title suggests obvious references

Waltz

2000
wheel barrows
244 x 122 x 71

Waltz
Inspired by Beuy's "Two Handled Spade", the piece suggests that a high degree of cooperation and coordination would be required to utilise this object. Hence the title

Untitled - work in progress

2008
mixed media
variable

Untitled - work in progress
This piece suggests collaboration / participation, and is a re-evaluation of Holbein's "Abassadors" of 1533

Red Shoes

2002
r-type photo on aluminium
67 x 58

Red Shoes
This highly suggestive, yet ambiguous image, implies tactics employed by the media

High Chairs

1999/2000
wood, cushions, paint
each chair = 213 x 45 x 60

Modified found objects that constitute a denial of function. If we managed to scramble aloft, we would feel exposed and vunerable, in the same way that many socially constructed environments make us feel

Butterfly

2007
bed heads, steel, light, paint
230 x 130 x 50

An attempt to beautify these highly suggestive and evocative found objects

Bridge

1997
glass, tiles, wood
270 x 110 x 110

Bridge
The physical urges instigated by this piece, are thwarted by common sense. The work references utilitarian environments

Four

1999
clothes, wood, glass, aluminium
each element = 213 x 61 x 61

The proportions suggest the human form. This presence via absence is further high lighted by the inclusion of the referent laden clothing

Unusual Expressions of Endearment

2000
r-type photo on aluminium
45 x 58

Unusual Expressions of Endearment
Inspiration, and therefore meaning, can be found in the most unexpected of places
