Massimo Bandi

About the Artist

Massimo Bandi is a figurative painter in the best sense of the word.
His images, rich with truth, speak for themselves with an expressive force which captures the observer.
His drawing is essential, his composition is almost photographic, his color is lacking in narcissism.
A skillful game of lights and shadows reveals the figures: portraits of women, evocative groups, struggles.
The artist’s discourse is clear and firm.
The denunciation of the violence and miseries that still mark the life of the man, here and under far skies, as well as the torment for mankind’s liberation find in his art a strong, never rhetorical, expression. This expression knows accents of sometimes extreme sincerity and is capable of drawing attention through the strict formal control that always gives tone and measure to his extraordinary figures.
The themes are those of the present time, sometimes dictated by a nearly journalistic attention to everyday life. His art never gives you an impression of deja-vu : everything is constantly renewed, everything pulses with life, under his objective, but compassionate, eye. His art immediately carries you wherever it wishes to carry you. Yet, you conserve that critical ability that is evocative of the Verfremdungseffekt, the alienation effect of the great expressionist theatre of Brecht.
