| In the seismology of life
Sorrow cannot be measured
On any Richter scale
But the hard truth was..
Strong undercurrents
Quacked the earth
The earth moved
Like the ship in the storm
Up and down
Everything flattened
In less than a second
The death toll as high
As hundred thousand
Double the number buried
Triple the figure injured
Many more and more
Maimed and injured
The human psyche
Suffered unaccountable
Bodies lie entombed
Rotted under rubble
Hands stretching out
Of broken skewed roofs
As if crying for help
Take me out!!
The cries echoed my ears
And they still do
I brood
I wake up shaken from a dream
Oh how I wish!
I could help them all
Miles away from epicenter
Sat me comprehending
The magnitude of mother earths fury
Oh yes, it was January 26, 2001
