| Laura 'Sheren' (=artistname) Cristin |
| |
|
I was born on June13th 1954, while the Sun was in Gemini, ascendant in Cancer, at Latitude 45° North, Longitude 13° East, in Gorizia, Italy. My name is Laura Cristin, or SHEren if you consider my art-identity. I move the environment of Siren and dolphins. As cetaceans they are mammals like us. I do paintings, installations, mail art, photography but most of all art actions that bring me around the world. In the last years the performances have almost replaced colours and brushes... with deep emotions, easy to carry as hand luggage, that I can express with my body, leaving ephemeral/concrete traces of my heART on the way, often in the form of sprayed princess or prince.

| About the Artist |
Primary school teacher up to 1993, I started painting in the early Eighties with the technique of oil-behind-glass, continuing then with acrylics on board/ canvas and three-dimensional works and installations. In 1995 I took part in the film "La Storia del Cantastorie" produced by Slovenian Television. In this journey that is also a research about identity, I started from surrealistic landscapes to arrive at a concreteness of the body (paintings and sculptures of the series MySELF, SHE, Siren) ending up with choosing the performance as my métier. The first actions were in Ireland (2003) during the visiting artist residency at Cill Rialaig (reconfirmed for July 2008) developing a project about a dolphin named Fungi and connecting it with the pre existing identity of Siren (SHEren). Performances followed in Europe (Madrid, Finland, Germany, London) and in Mexico City (at "Performagia4" in 2006) where I gave the talk "SHEren in A-MexicO". My work is strictly connected with the Music. Since 2004, with the precious collaboration of the musician Dario Della Rossa (composer and pianist, working about environmental music and sound landscape at DAMS of Calabria University), I experiment, investigate and explore the possibilities of expressing the harmony of ‘moti dell’anima’ through the body, fully immersed in the music of places. Even if I do not disregard Public/Official occasions (“AMOzart action”: London Biennale 2006, “Action in G” for Garibaldi: Italy-Uruguay 2008 or other Sheren@Da, Son@Da performances), lately, I practice my actions mostly as Private Performances, that I do where I want/feel, such as in the reART gARTen of my house for instance. Sometimes other persons (artists or not) are involved, sometimes actions are filmed and uploaded in the web, more often they are just recorded by my heART, so as to continue to grow from an Intimate/Private dimension to blossom later .. as mystery is part of Life.. |
