The Deconstruction of Trade
2005 Ceramic DVD animated projection 90cm x 3000cm approx |
|
The narrative of willow pattern is used in the deconstruction of traditional ways of seeing and contributes to the admission of visual complacency. The landscape of Belfast is reconstructed from traditional willow pattern scenes over a series of thirteen plates, the final scence is then transposed to an animated projection where elements of the image move beyond visual familiarity. |

Auto-materiality
2006 China figure - Wet clay figure - Intravenous Drip Bag - Liquid Clay |
|
Auto-materiality engages the re-presentation of acknowledged familiarity. The wet cast figure is slowly fed by its own material which suggests both nourishment and sustainability. The duality of juxtaposed representation is continually altered through time-based activity where the replecated image is slowly deconstructed. |

Celebrity Obsession
2006 Cast Clay Figures - Monitor - Looped DVD 30 Mins |
|
Celebrity Obsession engages the notion of the object and the collector. The cast figures are devoid of colour or finish and maintain flash marks from the mould in which they were constructed. This is prresented in contrast to the narrative on screen which displays the passion of the collector discussing the figures within their collections. The work makes reference to the obsession with celebrity status within contemporary culture and transposes it to yet another stage. |
