AAA. ARTS AND ARCHITECTURAL APPLICATIONS
AAA. is an art-architectural-engineering office founded and running by the German artist THOMAS NICOLAI as an interdisciplinary platform for his scientific inspired research projects.
Due to the conception of the AAA. art is a secondary scientific experimental option: translating abstract models into spacial pictographic coherency / becoming able to comprehend and to experience the hidden inner mechanics of natural structures and processes.
Since 1999 the increasing interest in natural scientific phenomenona directed AAA. investigations to the development of BIOTIC SCULPTURES (artificial creatures with specific similarities to biological or physical structures/ interaction with the environment).
The AAA. focuses architecture as an aspect of artificial building and creation from the perspective of evolutionary drafts and strategies. ARCHITECTURE FOLLOWS EVOLUTION.
AAA. Projects are machines of visionary poetry reflecting a wider philosophical context.

ORACLE *1
1998 octogonal modular construction: steel 5 x 5 x 3 m |
|
A technoid modular vault construction is connected with a hanging archaic octogon ring. The open vertex in the dome is the upper extension of the octogon ring looking like an altar. The meditative accumulation of energies in the oracle ring becomes sended like a pencil of rays through the open vertex. The sculpture seems to be an energy Transmitter between the terrestrial world and the spherical space above our heads, the infinite expanse of the universe. It is a balance between mystery and future.
. . .
As a modular system from uniform basic elements –
1. intersection points respectively modifications of them (atoms),
2. distance fixing elements – steel rods for compression forces / steel strings for tensile forces (forces between the atoms),
3. originates a complex static lattice structure (molecular network)
. . .
It is about the context of the outer appearance of things, characterized by variety, complexity and chaos (unclearness) on one hand and on the other hand their orderly inner structure, determinated by singular fundamental particles.

RING
2005 water sculpture, octogonal glass-steel-c 4 x 4 x 2 m |
|
The RING is a heavy solid, but also a transparent flowing artefact of steel, glass and a liquid space inside. A mysterious glow comes out of the deep.
It is the pulse of life-giving water, what circulates inside of the RING, outside frozen to a monolithic shape. The elemental force seems insurmountably, a transparent barrier, concentrated to itself, a blue shining, and hermetic magnitude like our blue planet. The public intuitively feels the presence of the water, the mass what dominates the space.
The RING is a symbol for the surviving will power of life, for adaptation and dominance.
The light refracting effect of the water object distorts our perception. Things seem to be unreal like from an other world. You can realize small weightless floating particles in the deep water space. Everything moves slowly in a silent choreography. Time is frozen into shape.

SEEROSES GENERATOR
1997 metaphorical machine / circulating syste intended 2,0 x 1,0 x 1,5 m, drawings A4 |
|
water, steel, glass, 5 glass incubator cubes, 5 living plant pads for cultivation, technical fittings
. . .
Five glass chambers are connected to the circulation of the system. Every of each is an autonomous small world with essential life functions. Metabolism respectively energy supply
will be organized by the system. Every incubator cube contains a living piece of nature, a small plant pad for cultivation.
. . .
Every world has its own rhythm of life. And each is isolated from it’s neighbour by a heavy water barrier. Every microcosm exists only for itself, and the parallel worlds exist outside of their inner circle of perception. From an inside point of view they exist only hypothetically. And yet they are all parts of a bigger whole. They are the apparently independent terminal buds of a branching invisible network.
. . .
Metabolism function of the living cultures is provided by periodic flooding of the chambers. It reminds at the piston stroke of a 5-cylinder machine. The periodic oscillation in the biorhythm of the plant cultures causes energetic fields around the different chambers, which stand in interaction with each other. These must cause relationships of tension between the single microcosms. The easing clears a path through the system, though it can be assumed that these bioenergetic movements will leave some evidence in the circulation of the system. Probably the small worlds communicate via the system, because they are involved in it.
. . .
The world of our human perception is one of the fife generator chambers.
