| 关于此艺术家 |
Steve Watson can be viewed as a designer unshackled. He feels blessed that he can see beauty 'anywhere and everywhere' and his work often reflects this. There is a notable relaxed sensibility in his designs, a freedom of expression, a sense of humour. He works comfortably across a variety of materials, from glass, wood, concrete, metals to plastics, blending them together as effortlessly as he blends ideas.

Cassiopeia Dining Table
2008 170cm dia x 78cm h |
|
The Cassiopeia is a large glass topped dining table with cold rolled aluminium legs and bevelled edges. The dramatic sculptural base is formed from three laser cut cold-rolled aluminium pieces braced together in a structure reminiscent of elliptical orbital patterns. The tabletop is a triangular piece of toughened glass with curved edges. The Cassiopeia is a design that pays homage to architectural structure. It also plays with perceptions, like a visual trick. The cleverly conceived leg detail makes the table appear both heavy and light, depending upon which angle it is viewed from. |
Take Me, I’m Ready Floor Lamp
2008 70cm L x 70cm W x 170cm H |
|
Take Me, I’m Ready is a Limited Edition hand-made floor lamp that features a suspended Swarovski crystal chandelier. The sculptural tripod body of the lamp is made from hand laid fibreglass. On the inside of the legs, rows of ultra bright white LEDs are inlayed and these focus of the suspended crystal chandelier, catching the light and diffusing it outwards. The organic form of this piece references the human body, whilst the finish is closer to that of a super car. Take me, I’m Ready expresses the notion that design is art with purpose. |

| 教育程度与个人自传 |
After graduating in Industrial Design from the University of Queensland in 1997, he worked as an in-house designer for Fibre Light Systems before setting up his own design practice in 2000. Since then he has divided his time taking on commercial design commissions for interior projects and designing and producing items for his own home range. His designs include sofas, chairs, stools, lights and tableware.
His debut solo exhibition entitled 'Need is not the reason' was held in Richmond, Australia in 2002. It featured three very different designs, a sofa, light and salt and pepper pots. After coming to Britain in 2003, he has gone on to exhibit new work at 100% East and Designersblock during the London Design Festival and at Designersblock Milan 2007.
The last two years have seen a new focus on the human form, his technically accomplished and luxurious 'Take me, I'm Ready' floor lamp a wonderful example of this new obsession. During the 2008 Salone Internazionale del Mobile Steve Watson exhibited new designs at the SaloneSatellite in his solo show entitled 'Love is a pretty thing'.
