About the Artist

My works deal with the place we take in the greater scheme of things. My question is what humanity is in relation to the universe. How is it possible that we who are made of flesh are so separate from the world that is also made of matter?

Since ages this universe has been viewed as the source of chaos. Fear for this is about as old. Since those days there have been ardent attempts at taming and shaping the chaos. For centuries art has sought the greatest harmony in name of this fear. Since the modernists, really, since science took a hold of us, we allow chaos more space to influence and control our lives.

In my works this all is expressed in how the individual and group is at the same time part of the paint as separate from it. By means of subtle compositional elements unity is brought to the apparent chaotic image. These compositional elements seem to refer to rules and laws, human and scientific, that we answer to, consciously or unconsciously.

The signature of my paintings is not intended to invoke feeling, it is rather an attempt at solidifying the transience of movement.
