关于此艺术家

My approach utilises sequence and
correlation in relation to existing systems;
such as the cycles of nature and landscape,
numbers, energy waves, colour therapy
bottles. Works often involve dialogues
between individual works or from modules
within multi-component works.

A squared & reconfigured world

2007
W: 340.4 cm X H: 238.8 cm (all 4 sections)

A squared & reconfigured world
I Decided logically (or is that illogically? ) to embark on the epic ‘A squared & reconfigured world’ which contains 396 6”X4” panels in 4 sections (and one 10”X8” canvas in the centre). Documented are the locations 0-99 (1.1 X1.1, 2.2X2.2 etc) in the four different directions from the Equator/Meridian axis of O. Aside from maps, these – mainly - inhospitable and inhabitable areas are represented by different shades of blue (to represent the sea) and a range of underpinning rules that are in keeping with ongoing use of the relationship between system and chance".

Seduction

2007
Digital photo panels, colour paper
W: 124.5 cm X H: 94 cm

Seduction
This piece originated from a series of photos taken whilst stuck on a New York bound bus in a traffic jam on the New Jersey side of the Lincoln tunnel late one November afternoon. 'Seduction' was made for the 'Climate of Change' show in London 2007. The rationale is that many of us find these type of images 'cool' and reflect our fantasies of urban Americana as fuelled by programmes like 'The Sopranos and the songs of Bruce Springsteen and the Clash. At the same time the enviromental cost to the future fills us/me with guilt

(Jersey landscape) From a New York bound bus 1

2007
Digital Photograph
Variable print size (up to 42 cm x 59.4 cm)

From the New York bus series (see 'Seduction'). I used to take this journey regularly when i lived in NJ. the abstract quality of the trees and glow of the sunset juxtapose the pollution

(Jersey landscape, like a lunar landscape) From a New York bound bus 2

2007
Digital Photograph
Variable print size (up to 42 cm x 59.4 cm)

From the New York bus series (see 'Seduction') looking towards Newark/Kearney from Route 3. Similar attraction to version #1. the extra line in the title is a reference to a Springsteen song ("New Jersey in the morning like a Lunar landscape") that this image clearly evokes, although it is taken at the other end of the day in this case

(Empire State) From a New York bound bus 3

2007
Digital Photograph
Variable print size (up to 42 cm x 59.4 cm)

From the New York bus series (see 'Seduction'). This traditionally tourist subject is given a melancholy touch in the early evening light

(Lincoln tunnel) From a New York bound bus

2007
Digital Photograph
Variable print size (up to 42 cm x 59.4 cm)

From the New York bus series (see 'Seduction'). The gateway to Manhattan is entered (the reverse journey to the one that Tony Soprano makes)

SP, edge over central

2007
Tippex pen drawings on eighty four photographs
W: 251.5 cm X H:177.8 cm

I first visited the Silent Pool back in 2001 here I took one of the original photographs from then , and scaled it up in to a sequence of eighty four 7” X 5” prints. Another series of eighty four photos that I took in 2004 around the perimeter of The Silent Pool, were traced off the computer screen and transferred to superimpose onto the photographs. These work are about the correlation of looking, experiencing and relating to space one view Vs several views and time being static and active in the same moment.

SP, edge over central over edge

2005
tippex drawing, Photgraphs, charcoal, mixed media
W: 251.5 cm X H:177.8 cm

As with 'SP, edge over central' the same source material is used. This time the reverse is documented and so the edge photographs are separate panels and the central area is drawn/superimposed over these. These work are about the correlation of looking, experiencing and relating to space one view Vs several views and time being static and active in the same moment.

‘SP, lateral pan & zoom’

2005
Tippex pen drawings on fifteen photographs
w: 279.4 cm X H: 20.3 cm (2 panels)

As with ' SP, edge over central' a similar process was undertaken with the tracing/drawing on the 15 photographs. This time the same photograph is scanned separately and zooms 15 times, whilst our perception of the processes of image quality and movement are challenged. These work are about the correlation of looking, experiencing and relating to space one view Vs several views and time being static and active in the same moment.

Study for AS Sequential Installation, 1-100 (inactive)

2004
100 felt pen/ink drawings on paper
W: 198.1 cm X H: 175.3 cm

The Aura soma colour therapy bottles, are a system i've appropriated in various formats since 2001. this is a study for a planned mixed media installation The inactive pieces have the Aura Soma bottles presented in the still modular grid form.

Study for AS Sequential Installation, 1-100 (active)

2004
100 crayon/ink drawings on paper
W: 142.2 cm X H: 213.4 cm

The Aura soma colour therapy bottles, are a system i've appropriated in various formats since 2001. this is a study for a planned mixed media installation . With these active pieces the sequence of bottles correlates from one to the next changing our view from full bottle to fragment of, small > large > whole view >part view etc. I look upon this like the frame by frame sequence of a movie, where correlation and logic is followed by sudden breaks and changes.

Absence of grey area (X 2)

2006
Digital imagery, airbrush, watercolour, tippex/felt pen on paper
W: 47 cm X H: 57.2 cm

Part of the 'Silent Pool' series. this work utilises the iconic shed at this location (soon to be burned down ) and deals with opposites, I:e the negative colours are simulated by hand and the various media used
