My work is a response to the area I live. The subject matter is home and work and the journey that links them across the distance of a canvas. There is a quality of humour that Icannot plan in advance and often changes during the course of the work.This is like a tempo or expression in music. The subject matter is often not worth more than an estate agents photo, but the houses, old mills and roads do have character. The buildings have traces of human use and routine,working lives have passed into history. The well known clouds of Stockport bring a wealth of subtle colour changes which I use in my work to create a mood and specific type of light. The sky is sometimes as busy as a road ,full of aircraft trails and telephone wires , and sometimes it is calm and recedes behind the buildings. My preparatory studies use drawing , digital paintbox and photography. |
