| Brenda Howell |
| |
|
Born in Oklahoma, USA, in 1947, Brenda also grew up in New Mexico, Texas and California. She started painting at the age of five when her mother, while teaching private art classes, encouraged her to paint her first oil painting. This early introduction to the process of sketching and outdoor painting was instrumental to her interest in and love of landscape.

| 关于此艺术家 |
Award-winning artist Brenda Howell is inspired by the wild, natural landscape. Her emphasis is the American West and the Grand Canyon, where she lived in the national park for four years doing graphic design work for the lodges on the South Rim, and then made the transition to painting full time. She works primarily in oils both plein air and in the studio. Her work speaks of fascination with rock structure and dramatic light on complex natural forms. Making her first landscape painting in oils at age five, she got an early start, being blessed by her mother’s passion for art and teaching her children along with teaching private art classes. Brenda now makes her home and studio in Northern New Mexico and travels in her paintmobile to various locations in the west. |

Toroweap Point is in Grand Canyon National Park's far west area. Volcanic features abound here and are visible especially looking to the west. |

This far western portion of Grand Canyon National Park is a remote seldom visited area where I love to camp and sketch. |
Rain Beyond Isis Temple
2006 Oil on Canvas 27.9 cm x 35.6 cm |

Stormy weather in Grand Canyon makes for very different color relationships and is always a treat to behold. |
Point Lobos
2006 Oil on Canvas 91.4 cm x 91.4 cm |

This rocky area on the Pacific Coast carries the same dramatic emotional impact for me that Grand Canyon does. Nature at its best. |
Afternoon Shadows
2004 Oil on Canvas 91.4 cm x 121.9 cm |

The Desert View area of Grand Canyon in the far eastern part of the Park offers a wider section of the canyon with a great view of the Colorado River. |
On the River
2005 Oil on Canvas 30 cm x 22.8 cm |

Experiencing the Grand Canyon by a rafting trip down the Colorado River is a thrill of a lifetime. This is a view from the river. Occasional exciting rapids but mostly calm floating on smooth water with a fantastic show of rock formations going by. |
