| About the Artist |
Hailing from the beautiful African nation of São Tomé and Principe, Aissata is the epitomy of the self-taught artist. Her work, born out of her for love of Africa and her multicultural influences, her respect for life and her pride in being a woman , is a true reflection of the fiery passions that lie within her soul. Her artistic journey is one of dedication and hard work, with a deep yearning to express herself and spread love.
Aissata first entered the world of the arts while living as a model in Paris. It all began when after not being able to find African plates in the French marketplace, she somewhat defiantly decided to design them on her own… Not long after, the demand for her work started to grow and her collections were soon picked up by renowned international tableware house “Vista Alegre”. This was the first step.
That experience having given her a wonderful taste of the process of creating, Aissata then moved to New York where she discovered an exciting artistic city, and had enriching encounters with artists from all over the world. Nourished by the cultural dynamics of the city, Aissata decided to embark on a new path. And so for months, she taught herself the mysteries of graphic design with the help of computer manuals. This is when her very first character illustrations came to life…
Inspired by traditional embroidery designs from Congo called “Kubas”, Aissata the Artist began to surface as she began this new and exciting process which came to fruition with the creation of full blown female-empowerment cartoons . At the center of these cartoons illustrations emerged characters, strong beautiful women, “her women”... This was the second step.
And so Aissata continued to grow, to evolve, to feel, and as her need to express herself with a greater immersion into Art became undeniable, she bought her first canvas. This was the third step and the true beginning of her journey as an Artist. Today, Aissata’s work is a pure and authentic celebration of women, and of the beauty of womanhood as a whole. At the core of her art are indeed her female characters which she brings to life in a wonderful world of vibrant colors painted on large-scale canvases that reveal women that are strong, tall, beautiful and confident… and an intrinsic part of their creator, Aissata.
Well-traveled (46 countries visited), fluent in five languages, a free-spirit, an artist with a purpose and a message of love, Aissata currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

Runners
2008 Acrylic on Canvas 1m52 x 1m83 |

“Dedication and commitment are what transfer dreams into realities” I’m a runner myself and to me running is like a metaphor for life. As a matter of fact I equal running to painting… You get out of running what you put into it. When I’m running, one minute I feel like I’m are on top of the world and I could run for days, then the next, I’m convinced that there is no way I’m going to be able to run for even 5 minutes more. My paintings are rather large and take long weeks from start to completion. There are days were I could just erase everything because I don’t like the way it looks, but with work and patience the painting slowely takes shape. To succeed I must to be patient, focused and determinated . Just like when I’m running… |
