| About the Artist | |
The influence of Salvador Dali's surrealism, El Bosco's imagery, and Vincent Van Gogh's treatment of colour and brushstroke are evident in Alexis' work. He combines the use of graphic design digital applications for compositional work and classical methods of painting for the actual rendering of the piece. |

Around the World

| I painted this one when I came to Canada. It was a premonition of the future which I could confidently expect with open arms, like a man observing the horizon, waiting for a loved one. The lights are the source of that certainty, of my peace and inspiration. I dedicated this painting to my brother, who I left behind when he was only six months old. |

The Dreamer

| We all have dreams and hopes that we keep protected in the corners of our hearts. These are the places where we are most vulnerable and naked, the moments when we allow ourselves to be human and real. It is here that we have the capacity to appreciate how unique each of us is regardless of the ropes and chains that keep us tied to an unjust world that requires the sacrifice of dreams. |

| Humanity, in it's arrogance and ignorance, tries to hold and control the world, but this hold is precarious. This is a world of weakened, materialistic faith, consumeristic sensuality and self-centered dreams. This is the world in which we live. This is the world that I mock in this painting; a childish circus world, a fiction we live every day.

| I wonder if it is possible to live in this North American life style with its great houses, cars, mortgages, leases, fancy places of worship and overweight pets in the light of the fact that today 35,000 children died as a result of poverty. What kind of justification can we give for our lack of action?... Is it the system, our debts, maybe our children or a convenient compromise? It is all selfishness... it is all about the cult of self. |

| Education and biography | |
| Alexis Ramos-Mejia began painting at an early age in the city of Lima, Peru. His love for the visual arts began at the Museo de Bellas Artes, where he started studying art at the age of four. At five, Alexis won his first national competition in painting. In preparation for admission to the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Catholic University of Lima, Alexis studied drawing, painting and sculpting at the studios of Edith Sachs and Federico Esquerre. Alexis has shown his paintings as part of exhibitions in Lima, Toronto and London. In addition to creating his own paintings, Alexis enjoys sharing his love of art with others by teaching painting and drawing workshops. Alexis lives with his wife, Holly, and his daughter, Brooke, in London, Ontario. |
