About the Artist

Certifiably nuts about cars would be a very accurate description of myself. From a very young age I can remember being fascinated by the automobile. The Grandson of a mechanic and the son of a Jaguar engineer, I basically had no choice, not that I’d want one.
It all started with stories of my Grandfather’s heavily modified Ford Zepher. Many a family member still raves about it, but this was unfortunately before my time. I’d love to get a hold of a particular DeLorean and go back in time and experience it for myself. Then there were the days of my Dad bringing home fire engines, since they were in those days powered by Jaguar engines. The living room of our home was commonly used as a wind tunnel, with lengths of wool, scotch tape and my mother’s hair dryer-Jaguar being a typically run British company at that time with big ideas and no money. I can tell all of you Jaguar fans out there that Browns Lane did not do the quarter scale wind tunnel testing on XJ40. It was, in fact, the living room floor of 15 Sunningdale Drive, Nuneaton, England, my childhood home. Then there were the weekends at Silverstone watching Tom Wilkinshaw’s XJ’S run rings around BMW’s 6 series, the thrill of standing in the garages when the drivers turned over their V12’s with a straight through exhaust, and the fact that our neighbor owned the body shop where Tom had all the race cars painted. I loved every minute of it.
In truth my photography is my own interpretation of what I enjoy about the automobile; I trust you’ll enjoy what I see through the lens of my camera.

Sincerely,

Alister Oliver

Push Back To Go Faster
Shot on 35mm Agfa Ultra Color film. I like to shoot close up abstracts of anything with four wheels.

Irony

Irony
This is one of the 7 remaining long nose Jaguar D-types with a Ford GT reflected in the paint.

A Day Out For Dino

A Day Out For Dino
A Ferrari Dino out at the car show. Shot on 35mm Agfa Ultra color.

No Trailer Queen Here

2006
35mm film Agfa Ultra Color

No Trailer Queen Here
One of the only twelve built a Jaguar light weight E-Type. This particular car was only discovered in the last few years and was kept as found and still raced to this day. A rare example of more brains than money!

British Bullets

2007
35mm film Agfa Ultra Color
4"x6" print mounted in an 8"x10" mat

British Bullets
This is an Aston Martin DB5 and reminded me, in a suttle way, of the old Cadillacs with their bullet sytle tail lamps.

Cords Coffin

2005
35mm film Agfa Ultra Color
4"x6" print mounted in an 8"x10" mat

Cords Coffin
If only all coffins looked this good. I've always liked the look of Cords and these particular ones were magnificent.

Insert Old Racing Hero Here

2006
35mm film Agfa Ultra Color
4"x6" print mounted in an 8"x10" mat

Insert Old Racing Hero Here
The bird cage Maserati although not the most successful sports racing car it was driven by pretty much all our old heros. When I took this image all I could think of was Fangio, Sterling even Caroll Shelby drove one, amazing.

A Rats Nest

2006
35mm film Agfa Ultra Color
4"x6" print mounted in an 8"x10" mat

A Rats Nest
I saw this and thought of how todays modern cars are styled under the hood in a similar manner as their exterior. This picture being a record of how times have changed, hence the name.

The Bare Essentials

2006
35mm film Agfa Ultra Color

The Bare Essentials
The Ariel Atom oh how times have come back around. All you get is what you need to go fast. I love this car!!!

Track Day Please
Red cars with a race number on their side is always a good combination, in my eyes. In this case its an Austing Healey 100/6.

The English Love Their Wood

The English Love Their Wood
Not matter what the case or how serious a car the English some how will find a way to sneak some wood into a car. This car being an Aston Martin DB3s racer. It humours me to say the least.
