Alla Tkachuk’s series of new paintings, big, bold, political, show her ongoing concern with the hilarious superficiality of some of the world’s most powerful leaders. She does what any good historian wishes to do – undresses dictators, revealing them in a new light of evil stupidity both metaphorically and physically. A large painting of Hitler, shirt hanging out, wearing a jacket and tie, with shining naked legs, seated seductively on the lap of a half-naked Stalin, expresses an edgy sense of the absurd. |
