Ana Pimentel

About the Artist

Ana Pimentel’s work with her colourful compositions conveys a various layers and compression of Space, Time and Identity.
Combining geometric motifs and shapes includes references to Portuguese Traditional Culture (Festivity, Folklore, ornamental shapes, symbols, Mosaic,Flowers, sewing, embroidery and lace).
In her highly worked and the vibrant and intense colour paintings Ana Pimentel creates new narratives, building plans and architectural forms; paintings that are built up through layers of acrylic paint on canvas and using a technique of collage.

Engaged both the composition visual of colour, line and textures, experimenting with different scale and materials.
The combination of harmony with often violent contrasts results in a visual experience that seems musical.

....

To look at the Paintings of Ana Pimentel you are immediately faced with na exciting challenge. Their technical confidence is plainly manifest but to enter info the very personal dimensions and attempt to share the emotional magnification appears at first as an unsurmountable task.

Her works refute the superficial playgrounds of simple optics and direct emotions and call for a depth of understanding which lies within the “ never never “ mental sence of space; where all has happened, all is possible but all remains to be.
Ana Pimentel creates her own very personal language with her deliberate but subtly worked architectural construction and then blends it, skilfully and harmoniously, with her provocative strong emotions and her world of mystical fascination.

To share this language with her through the medium of her works is not paramount for her obvious quality in application speaks for itself.
