| About the Artist |
I am a multidisciplinary artist with a foundation in print media and installation. My predominant concerns are the importance of story telling and the role of myth in contemporary society. I invoke the serious side of play and use of humour as a technique to discuss difficult subject matter. My images also reflect past histories in an attempt to slow societal amnesia as we are bombarded by more and more information.
Currently, I am interested in researching the circus, specifically, the circus as a metaphor for life. As an exaggerated reflection of society the circus is full of the bizarre, the death defying, the spectacular, where the socially marginalized are included and empowered. I want to explore notions of illusion and spectacle, performance and observation, light and shadow, as ways of understanding how society defines normality.
In my recent work I am experimenting with manipulating space and atmosphere through light,
sound, performance and the phenomenology of artwork. Using a collage of printwork, automata, electronics, sensors, Lego Mindstorms System 2.0 and Max/Msp/Jitter software I am researching the creation of an interactive installation, which will perform in collaboration with the viewer to create a nonlinear, dendritic narrative.
