Anne Russinof

About the Artist

I live in New York and am a painter who relies on the stresses and challenges of an urban environment for motivation. That doesn't mean that my images are geometric or hard-edged, necessarily. Rather, my paintings are of jumbled forms struggling to coexist, and to maintain their equilibrium in an active world.

My paintings are inspired by patterns both man-made and natural: wrought iron gates, piles of wood, window grates, waves, tree branches, glass beads, balls of yarn, frames, cornices, arches, stairs, hills, and holes. Line, form, repetition, and color are at play in these clusters of circles that form imperfect grids. The paintings reflect what I imagine to be nature's seemingly random and yet organizing principles.
