| About the Artist |
My area of interest lies within anthropological and ethnographical study. As an artist I engage with places and people, immersing myself within specific “situations” offered by the surrounding environment (anything from a scene at a local café to conversations shared between people), and developing what an ethnographer would call ‘field work’. |

"I wish you were here"
2006 200x200cm |
|
This installation was created for an exhibition in Breda, Holland after a three month long project. For various reasons I had to travel through several countries during those months and therefore, as a response to my experiences I decided to record these journeys. I made a diary, took photos and recorded sounds while travelling in: Germany, Spain, France and UK. After the three months, and finishing my travelling period in Breda, Holland, I decided to display my journey and I designed this installation, which recreated my sitting room filled with my memories of the experience. I didn’t only recreate my journey but also gave the audience the chance to sit down and reflect upon their own journeys they have taken through life. |
"Sweet dreams"
2006 200cmx200cm |
|
This installation was created as a proposed exhibition piece for the exhibition “Tourism, Tourism, Tourism” in Madrid. I decided to create an installation in which the photographs would take the audience to an ideal holiday location, but the sound would offer an alternative perspective to the one offered visually, thereby bringing them into the reality of what a holiday is: noise, lots of people and intrusion. |
"From Santurce to Bilbao"
2006 200cmx200cm |
|
This is an audio visual installation formed by eight Perspex panels and eight sound tracks. They are the result of a long period of interviews and research developed in coordination with another Spanish artist living in Santurce. This installation was part of an exhibition in Bilbao, in Spain. |
"Conversations"
2006 Filling the room |
|
This is an installation formed from a small part of my “Conversation archive”. I record conversation on a regular basis that are then transcribed and archived. It was when I was offered to be part of an exhibition at “The Crypt” in Bristol that I decided to display some of my recorded conversations and create this installation. The reason why I chose to do this was the location. When I first went to the Crypt to evaluate the space, it suddenly made me think about the whispering rumours of the past that once happened in this underground crypt. It reminded me of my “conversation archive” and I thought it was a perfect place to exhibit some of them. |
