History, strength, beauty and instinct-
Audrey wants each of her pieces to evoke something familiar within the human condition. She believes that it is the single moments in life that give us our sense of humanity. Her art is an expression of the common strand that runs between us all; instinctual emotion. Rather than focus on symbols within her paintings, Audrey hopes that her work will simply be appreciated for it's initial impact and impulse that is stimulated through vision. She hopes to bring her audience into the moment and away from the pressure of trying to understand a feeling. Anybody can experience a feeling on impulse, and art is for everyone to experience.
Audrey works in explosions of colour and strong, direct lines. Her subject matter changes from piece to piece although she maintains an affinity for portraiture and many of her pieces reflect the traditional Mexican symbols she was surrounded by and inspired by as a child.
Gaining her first collector in the fall of 2007 encouraged her to go part time with her job and to take on painting as her top priority. Subsequently she found her first studio in December of 2007 when she took on a new commitment and seriousness to her work as a painter. Audrey's work was exposed for the first time in July of 2008 as an integral part of "Girls in The City" alongside other local Vancouver artists. After a couple more shows in 2008, Audrey took on a position at Yaletown Gallery as an Assistant Director. She quickly realized that it was not her love to be behind the shows, but to be creating the work. After a brief sabbatical from her home country and her work, Audrey has returned to Vancouver where she is currently working on a continuous body of works. |
