| About the Artist |
Collage has always been an element within my work but it is only recently that i have begun exploring it in its original basic essence 'as works on paper'.The works themselves are combines of magazine images, photocopies, colour copies, exhibition flyers and suchlike. They are layered, torn back, ripped and rent. Paint and mark makers are also used. The works are intricate, yet with a roughness, which nods to my interest in 'outsider or folk art' and the idea of de-collage. When starting a piece i have no pre-determined conclusion in mind of what the work will be. I may start with a particular image from a magazine which may or may not determine a path to follow while at other times this image may get totally lost or disregarded along the way. For me the works are as much studies in the process as they are finished pieces. The main importance is the execution of the work and its overall aesthetic coherence. |
