Caitlin Heffernan

About the Artist

My recent practice has developed from a project based on caravans. This was initially activated after discovering an old photograph of my mother; sister and I in my grandparent’s caravan and this re-discovery of a forgotten moment and time instigated a project that explored memory, temporality, space and home. I have been working with the possibility and impossibility of capturing this memory.

Chaty
This was developed after a residency in Prague, there were many holiday homes or 'Chaty' on the fringes of the city and near to where I was staying was a chalet park and holiday home. This is my own version constructed from materials from a local diy shop based there and later re-assessmbled on my return to the UK.

part of a series of drawings based on a short residency in Nigeria where I had to leave early due to factional violence. The inspiration was finding a discarded piece of basket on the floor which was used as a template and was also a reflection of the land and highly patterned Nigerian fabrics.

We Felt As Though We Had Landed on Mars
this drawing installation was developed after a residency in Nigeria that was cut short due to factional violence. These drawings are made using a discarded piece of basket found on the floor of a market. The installation is inspired by the red earth, rocky terrain and highly embellished nigerian fabrics.
