Caroline Hepburne-Scott

Born 1983, London
Caroline Hepburne-Scott is a contemporary Scottish artist living and working near Hawick, in the Scottish Borders. Drawing inspiration from the extraordinary landscape of this and other areas where she has lived, Caroline uses a variety of materials and processes to explore and create.
|

About the Artist
Caroline Hepburne-Scott uses the natural environment as a source of inspiration. She focuses on relating something of the atmosphere and context of a place with details of often unnoticed fragile and transitory elements.
Applying a variety of materials, she uses the qualities of glass, paper, latex and paint to inform and develop her practice. Through these mediums and emphasis on the compositional use of space she creates a strong sense of atmosphere and peace through her work. Large empty areas contrast with obsessive yet quiet detail to draw viewers to inspect and involve themselves.
Travel has been an important influence and time spent in Australia and New Zealand after graduating, as well as a Post Graduate Diploma at the Cyprus College of Art in Paphos have through varying and dramatic light, colour and atmosphere, created a contrast with her Scottish roots. Adapting to such different working conditions and environments have provided exciting sources of development in her practice over recent years.
